Over the fall of 2017, I am researching the influence of displaying real-time water usage to a community. See DisplayScape.
Developing my knowledge of electronic circuits and Arduino (C+) programming is one of main the sabbatical goals.
Main components of the display:
- Teensy 3.6
- OctoWS2811 LED Driver
- Neopixel 30 LED/m strips
- Mean Well 5V 110w power supply
- TDS-100H Ultrasonic flow meter
- Polycase YQ-121006 enclosure
Once the prototype is working, it will be deployed for a field trial outside one of the Cal Poly dorms.
This is a self-funded project with material support by Cal Poly Facilities and University Housing.
For the field trial, no personal information will be collected, so IRB approval is not required. University Housing will provide anonymous demographic information. Facilities is providing history water use data, and access to real-time meter information for the study area.
